Our History
In June 1970, the University established the Office of Minority Affairs and appointed Edward Wright, Jr. as the Assistant to the President. His mission was to provide a central focus and resource within the University for pursuing the goals of equal employment opportunity. In conjunction with the Deans, Central Administration and Personnel Office, the Office developed the University's initial affirmative action program. Walter J. Leonard was appointed Special Assistant to the President in July 1971. Successive Assistants to the President were Nancy Randolph and Ronald L. Quincy. President Neil Rudenstine appointed James S. Hoyte Assistant to the President/Associate Vice President in November 1992.
